Side Trips Page – January 2006
Well, I hope the New Year has started well for you all. By this time the
post-holiday hangover should be gone, the tree recycled and the
cholesterol reduction plan in full swing. It’s the time of year that I
get to hang at home, write and record music and enjoy the sunny, warm and
dry (so far this year) California winter weather. Soon enough, the touring
season will be here and time again to head for the airport.
Having traveled almost everywhere in the States and so many places
overseas with the band in last 30 years, it’s easy to see why the USA is
the ultimate destination for so many who are seeking a better life. No
matter where you stand on the debate about the encroachment on our
personal freedoms versus national security, it is an undeniable fact that
in the liberties department we are still ahead of most of the world. I
received a few emails over the holidays commenting on how lucky we are to
live here and enjoy this rich life we have and ended up writing this song
about it. My friend David Kole, a gifted composer, arranger and musician
helped me put this demo together. David recently wrote the orchestral
charts for Steve Vai’s “Lotus Feet” (recorded live with The
Metropole Symphony Orkest of Amsterdam). The recording is nominated for
Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the Grammys this year.
So here’s the song…hope
you enjoy it:
